Over the last two weeks, we have been looking at the skills and vocabulary used in newspaper articles. We have been writing our newspaper articles about Harry Potter’s first ever Quidditch match. In these newspapers, we have been trying to include all of our previously taught SPaG skills too:
- Dashes for parenthesis
- Brackets for parenthesis
- Relative clauses
- Time adverbials
Today, we have been working in groups to write setting descriptions about Diagon Alley. In our groups, we discussed all of the SPaG features we could include in our writing and tried to use them in the correct context. We have been focusing on:
- Dashes for parenthesis (extra information)
- Relative clauses
In Literacy, we have been writing our own reports all about Castleton. We focused on using subordinating conjunctions to expand our sentences and give more detail. Take a look at our wonderful display below, we were all so proud of our work!
This half term, our topic is based around Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. Below you will see a copy of our topic map.

Over the last couple of weeks in literacy and reading, we have been looking at different types of poetry. For our final writing task of the year, we have looked at Haiku Poems (a traditional Japanese art form). These poems follow a very strict set of rules and always have:
- 3 lines
- A syllable pattern of 5-7-5
Take a look at some of our finished examples below.
