Water Resistance Investigation

Yesterday, we completed our very own water resistance investigations.

If you have ever walked through water, you will have felt the effects of water resistance pushing against you.

We were looking at streamlined shapes and tried to create our own boats. Our aim was to get the boat that would cross the water the quickest and this would mean that it creates the least water resistance.

Forces in action!

This week, we have started our science unit looking at forces. First, we looked at what a force is then the following lesson we looked at gravity. We were investigating the link between mass (the ‘stuff’ inside an object) and weight (the strength of gravity acting on an object) using a newton meter. Take a look at us conducting our investigation below.

Castleton Day 2!

We’ve had an amazing second day and somehow managed to stay dry and avoid the showers!

Roman Battle

We started the day with a Roman Battle (the teachers even got to join in too!). We had great fun learning about the different formations the Romans used in battle.

Siege Engine

After the Roman Battle, we created our own catapults and re-enacted how the Romans and Celts would have fought. Needless to say, the Romans won…

History Timelines

After our lunch (sandwiches and crisps) we sat down and completed a really interesting History Timeline. We even linked it to our current learning in school all about the Vikings.  Once this session was over, some of us felt slightly tired and fell asleep in the common room.

Gem Panning and Candle Making

Our final activities before dinner was Gem Panning and Candle Making. We found some many amazing gems and can’t wait to bring them home!

Dinner Time!

Castleton Day 1!

We have loved our first day in Castleton so much! Today we have walked, walked…. and WALKED! We have also explored Treak Cliff Cavern where we saw lots of Blue John. Tonight we will be settling down to watch a film and hopefully sleep (early-ish!).

The whole class have been a real credit to the school and their parents today and we are so proud of them all! I am sure they will keep it up for the next few days!
